Endangered Species Webquest

Introduction :

Did you know that two out of three species around the world are endangered ? Biologists estimate that humans are destroying 1-3 species each day! At this rate, 20% of the world's species could be gone (= could disappear) in the next 30 years.

Now it is the time to do something about it. You are a Wildlife Ranger and you have been selected by the "Species Savers Corporation" to inform people about this problem.

Your task :

Your job is to become an expert on endangered animals.

- You will work alone or with a partner to research facts about an endangered animal.

- You will write a report about your endangered animal.

- You will create a PowerPoint presentation.

- You will report to your classmates.

The process :

- Select an animal by picking a name from a hat. You will work alone or your teacher will assign you a partner. / You will be assigned to a team of two.

- Visit the websites listed below and complete the Animal Data Form. Remember to use only jot notes in your data collection !!

- Using your notes, write a report, complete with paragraphs. When you are happy with your work, use a computer to word process the report.

- Create a PowerPoint presentation. For each paragraph in your report, you will create a slide that has text on one side and a picture on the other. Your presentation must have a title slide with your name on it.

The presentation is already custom-made for you - all you have to do is fill in the blanks !

- Share your PowerPoint presentation to the class. Make sure that you have rehearsed your presentation and that each person in your team spends equal time telling about the animal.
